Mom at heart even though the journey to motherhood wasn't easy, passionate about women and children's health... lover of truth, beauty, travel, and words.
ONCE UPON A TIME
I wanted to be a kind-hearted, honest woman who made a difference in the lives of others. The Honest Croissant is my attempt to blend these pieces of myself...my interests, passions, expertise and struggles in ways that will support and inspire other women. Health & Wellness are topics near and dear to my heart as a patient myself and as a Board Certified Family Physician (MD) with a Masters in Public Health from Johns Hopkins, concentrated on women and children's health & international health. I'm all too familiar with infertility and the struggles of motherhood as a mom to three kiddos all painstakingly conceived through IVF, our last pregnancy needing the help of a gestational carrier. My deliveries weren't a walk in the park either. Parenting has brought immense joy but has also posed its own challenges. As mom to a preemie and a child with special needs I have become a lifelong student...unlearning and relearning new ways to effectively parent.
Although I pursued a medical career, and love that piece of my life, the creative side of me demanded a turn as well. After my first child was born I tested out my writing skills with a blog, and then a regional parenting magazine granted me my own health column which won an award that same year. My love for writing grew, but at the same time so did my entrepreneurial effort, The Borrowed Boutique (an upscale, online children's styling & clothing rental company for photographers, wedding/party planners, and moms). I loved the creative side of the business and was excited by the challenge of building something new. I relished the marketing and styling piece of the business and was thrilled when my knack for social media and personalized customer service helped us scale quickly. The skills I gained from my time growing The Borrowed Boutique were priceless: styling photo shoots, creating charity events, being featured on high profile blogs for my children's parties, and also being featured on numerous media outlets including The Wall Street Journal Live created a thrilling whirlwind. But, in my heart of hearts writing has always been my passion. So, here I am, three kiddos and numerous job descriptions later, picking up my pen and paper as though I never set them down.
I knew I was a writer since the age of seven. I just forgot for a little while.
There's no such thing as too much travel!
I love to travel & explore the world. Different cultures & landscapes awaken my curiosity & passions. Volunteering in developing countries first inspired me to pursue medicine & public health. I always knew my journey wouldn't be predictable, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
